Vattenfall's Kriegers Flak wind farm was commissioned in the Danish Baltic Sea at the beginning of September. TÜV SÜD has accompanied the project on behalf of Vattenfall since 2018 and successfully completed the project certification. The certification was carried out in accordance with the Danish BEK 73.

The Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm is located in the Baltic Sea, between 15 and 40 kilometres off the Danish coast. It consists of 72 wind turbines of the 8-megawatt class from Siemens Gamesa and has a total output of 605 megawatts, which corresponds to the annual energy demand of around 600,000 households. "The good cooperation with TÜV SÜD has played a major role in enabling us to complete this ambitious project on time despite a global pandemic and to commission Kriegers Flak in September 2021," says Morten Fjordgaard Jensen, Certification Engineer at Vattenfall.

TÜV SÜD's assignment included the design certification of the foundation structure as well as the supervision and certification of the complete manufacturing phase, and the transport, installation and commissioning phase according to BEK 73 (Executive Order from the Danish Ministry for Climate, Energy and Buildings, No. 73). As part of the certification, TÜV SÜD's offshore wind energy experts checked the design of the wind turbines' monopile foundations and the connection to the tower by means of a so-called transition piece. The design review of the foundations already started in summer 2018 and the project certificate was handed over to Vattenfall at the beginning of September 2021.

"TÜV SÜD supports the development of innovative and sustainable technologies. We are pleased to have contributed to the implementation of this exciting clean energy generation project," says Liana Tatar, responsible project manager at TÜV SÜD. "The certification confirms that the Kriegers Flak wind farm complies with Danish regulations and that the safety of the turbines is guaranteed."
