Sappi Europe, a leading European manufacturer of coated paper, packaging and speciality paper headquartered in Belgium, is working with Shippeo, the leading European provider of real-time visibility solutions, to increase efficiency and customer satisfaction using Shippeo's platform. This collaboration provides Sappi with real-time visibility on internal transport routes as well as across Europe, down to the last mile to the customer.

Sappi Europe employs 5,600 people in Europe and produces a total of 3.7 million tonnes of paper and over one million tonnes of paper pulp annually in ten mills. The company is part of the South African group Sappi Limited, one of the world's leading suppliers of pulp, paper, packaging and sustainable wood fibre products and solutions.
Reducing costs along the supply chain and enabling greater customer focus while increasing service levels: these were the requirements for the new supply chain solution. The digitalisation of supply chain processes plays a central role in this. The ability to get real-time updates on the whereabouts of a delivery will improve internal efficiency and customer satisfaction
Shippeo's real-time visibility platform provides predictive transparency in transport logistics. This enhances the customer experience by providing a reliable forecast of when a delivery will arrive at the customer's door. Likewise, it is possible to tell customers more quickly and accurately the status of a delivery that is in the process of being delivered. Proactive sharing of the delivery status in real time ensures that potential delays are communicated to the customer in a timely manner.
In addition to improved customer service, greater visibility along the supply chain enables Sappi to noticeably increase efficiency. The company can now measure the performance of its carriers in real time and benefits from faster communication and better information sharing between customer service, logistics and carrier teams. The insights from the collected data help to continuously improve operational processes.
"Our customers rely on the on-time delivery of our high-quality products to serve their production processes," says Rudi Barthels, Head of Supply Chain and Procurement Projects at Sappi Europe. "By working with Shippeo and our logistics partners, we aim to exceed our customers' expectations by offering them more predictability and reliability in their deliveries."
Dennis van Bogedom, Director Northern Europe at Shippeo, welcomes Sappi Europe to the Shippeo community: "Like many other industries, the paper industry is increasingly relying on just-in-time deliveries. Logistics and communication are crucial here, both for Sappi's customers and for customer service, where many enquiries are received around late deliveries. I am confident that our collaboration will result in an optimised and proactive supply chain, to the benefit of Sappi, its customers and partners."
