The aviation industry is facing profound changes. Sustainability is also determining future planning here. In the course of decarbonising air traffic, hydrogen engines are increasingly coming into focus. And thanks to technological advances, urban, electric aviation is no longer a vision of the future. How to successfully meet these industry trends as well as classic challenges of the aviation sector with virtual solutions is the focus of Dassault Systèmes' presentation at ILA Berlin (Hall 3, Stand 120) from 22 to 24 June 2022.

In view of climate change, sustainability is a necessity for the entire aviation industry. Decarbonisation, i.e. the question of how to reduce one's own carbon footprint, is at the top of the agenda for many companies in the industry. Great potential is attributed to electric, hybrid and hydrogen propulsion. Dassault Systèmes has been helping the industry turn its innovative ideas into reality for 40 years. This experience contributes in many ways to driving the development of sustainable innovations. Dassault Systèmes' 3DEXPERIENCE platform provides a central environment for the design, development and manufacture of products and services. A key role is played by cross-disciplinary collaboration throughout the entire development cycle - not only within a company, but also externally with partners and stakeholders on the basis of a "single source of truth".

In addition, the industry is confronted with the consequences of the corona crisis. After the dramatic drop in demand, the resurgence of demand and simultaneous supply chain problems are presenting aircraft manufacturers and suppliers with new challenges in production planning. Increasing customer expectations combined with the growing complexity of programmes are leading to greater competitive pressures. As systems become more complex to design, manufacture and deliver, OEMs and suppliers must innovate, increase efficiencies and modernise their factories to enable more flexible production rates. This requires new methods for the design, engineering, manufacturing, testing, certification and support of new aerospace vehicles.

In addition, new concepts for urban air transport are emerging. Dassault Systèmes is not only supporting manufacturers of electric vertical take-off vehicles, so-called eVOTLs, but also in creating the necessary infrastructure (urban aiports). Urban air mobility and eVOTLs can become an important component of mobility-as-a-service concepts. Decisive for their profitability will be above all how they can be integrated into existing infrastructures with a multimodal transport system. During the ILA, Dassault Systèmes will not only be explaining how this integration can be achieved at its stand, but also at a panel discussion on Thursday, 23 June from 12:15-13:30.
