The material handling industry is experiencing a swift transformation due to a surge of advanced innovations. Technologies such as automated guided vehicles (AGVs), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), drones, digital twins, artificial intelligence, 5G, and electric trucks are revolutionizing the automation of goods transportation within warehouses and distribution Centers.

To support car dealers and garages in particular in mastering the transformation, Automechanika is planning the special show 'Workshop of the Future' in close cooperation with the German Federation for Motor Trades and Repairs (ZDK) and the Future Workshop 4.0 of the Institute for Automotive Industry (IfA).

The race for the coveted Innovation Awards at Automechanika is entering its second round: it has now been decided which companies have been nominated for the awards. The decision was made by the

17-member international jury, which met in Frankfurt on 18 July. A total of
42 applicants have been shortlisted in nine categories.

However, one of the major challenges is designing AVs that can navigate in dusty environments. Here, Tom Cash, director of automation parts supplier, Foxmere, explains why improvements in sensor technology in autonomous driving can tackle the industry’s dust issue following the unveiling of the UK-first autonomous articulated dump truck (ADT).
