Available today, the new AI-based SolarEdge ONE energy optimization system is designed to autonomously optimize home energy production and consumption with solar and storage in-line with real-time energy prices

To support the clean energy transition with grid balancing, dynamic electricity rates are gradually being introduced across Europe – with Germany set to make it mandatory for all electricity providers to provide at least one dynamic rate plan by the start of 2025. Dynamic rate tariffs encourage homeowners to reduce grid electricity use during hours of peak demand by charging a higher price, and shift their grid use to times of lower demand by offering lower prices during these periods – with prices changing every 15–60 minutes.

Helping homeowners to capitalize on the economic advantages of dynamic rates, SolarEdge Technologies, a global leader in smart energy technology, today launched its new AI-driven dynamic rate optimization solution designed to maximize energy bill savings for homeowners on a dynamic rate plan with solar, or solar and a battery. Available with a SolarEdge Home system, the SolarEdge ONE energy optimization system’s new dynamic rate capability is designed to autonomously optimize energy production and consumption on behalf of homeowners in-line with dynamic prices, by:

creating a personalized 24-hour optimized energy plan for the home by learning homeowners’ specific solar production and energy consumption patterns and preferences using predictive AI algorithms.
linking to day-ahead electricity markets in-line with German grid regulation and subsequently making hundreds of real-time decisions throughout the day to optimize energy use according to changing utility rates.
tapping into real-time weather forecasts in order to optimize solar energy production times and when best to deploy that energy within the home or battery.
autonomously charging a homeowner’s battery with grid electricity at the lowest price for self-consumption during peak hours when prices are at their highest, while also allowing homeowners to continue receiving the feed-in tariff by selling excess PV to the grid., in compliance with German grid regulations.
optimizing back-up power reserves in the battery to ensure reliable back-up power.

Robert Bruchner, Head of Sales & Marketing Germany at SolarEdge Technologies, said: “The trend towards dynamic rates is inevitable as the clean energy transition and EVs continue to proliferate, with grid operators now incentivizing homeowners to play an active role in reducing their energy use during peak hours to help stabilize the grid. However, since the first dynamic rate plans were introduced in Germany two years ago, we have witnessed a relatively low number of homeowners enrolled due to uncertainty over fluctuating prices and potential exposure to high energy bills. The launch of SolarEdge ONE will now enable homeowners to embrace dynamic rates with the peace of mind that their energy consumption will be optimized automatically with our AI-driven energy trading capability. We believe optimized energy is the future and consumers can realize these economic benefits today.”

SolarEdge ONE’s support of integration of select EV chargers and heat pumps, for extended load management capabilities, will follow soon.
