Green facades and roofs contribute to a natural appearance and improved air quality, especially in cities. However, the greenery on these parts of buildings must be well planned to avoid endangering the structural integrity of the building and prevent moisture from getting inside the building. Consequently, such facades and roofs place special demands on the building's water-bearing systems.

Glaston Corporation, the founder of the Glass Performance Days (GPD) conference, and Messe Düsseldorf, the organizer of the glasstec, the world’s leading international trade fair for the glass industry, start collaborating to advance continuous knowledge sharing, networking and the latest glass industry solutions.

Natural daylight supports our circadian rhythm, keeps us alert and productive. This is why humans prefer living and working spaces that are flooded with natural light. However, in a changing climate buildings need also more air-conditioning due to longer and more intense periods of heat. The glass industry offers solutions in the form of highly selective layered systems that make for both high daylight transmission and thermal protection in summer, which reduces the climatic load and the periods of time where shading is required.

The new trade fair for intelligent building technology, FESI – Fiera dell’Edificio Sostenibile e Integrato (Trade Fair for Sustainable and Integrated Construction) – will be held on the exhibition grounds in Bologna between 14 and 16 October 2025. The event will give a comprehensive overview of innovations – from building automation, IoT integration, climate and heating systems, energy management solutions, building security, electrical and lighting systems all the way to smart and vertical mobility.

From 17 to 21 March, the world's leading trade fair for HVAC and water will bring together over 2,000 exhibitors at the fairground in Frankfurt and offer visitors a comprehensive platform for innovative solutions and products. The building sector is facing many major challenges: rising construction costs and a shortage of skilled workers are colliding with an urgent need for new housing. Simultaneously, the energy and heating transition, not to mention the rapid pace of digitalisation, are creating new opportunities for a sustainable future. Messe Frankfurt has responded to the dynamic challenges in the market with a newly formed management team for its Building Technologies division.

Wisdome Stockholm is a new scientific experiential arena situated in the courtyard of Sweden’s National Museum of Science and Technology in Stockholm. The Wisdome Stockholm building encompasses a wooden architectural design creating an arched-shaped room of 1,325 square meters. Stora Enso has been the main partner and delivered sustainable wooden construction materials for the project.

Highly effective bird protection without changing the visual properties of glass is not yet possible using current technology. Effective protection is provided by grids of dots measuring 9 -12 millimetres in diameter, spaced 90 to 100 millimetres apart and consisting of metallic coatings that create bright reflections on less reflective glass – making for stark contrasts in optimum spectral ranges for birds.

Guardian Glass and Kuraray have partnered to obtain a Document Technique d’Application (DTA) for the compatibility of Guardian SunGuard™ High Durable (HD) coatings (coating against interlayer) and SentryGlas® Xtra™ interlayer material. This combination offers architects and façade consultants a new opportunity to design a building envelope with high strength and energy performance.
