Food is for consumption - that is its main purpose. But inventive companies are also finding other ways to use certain foods so that they become a sustainable solution for everyday life. These include containers made of beeswax, for example. Lithuanian company Bee Loop has developed a honeypot made from 100% pure beeswax that is organic, renewable, edible, biodegradable, antifungal, antiviral, antiseptic, antibacterial and, above all, recyclable. People and nature benefit from this solution. The invention was awarded the Adobe Sustainable Design of the Year Award, among others.
Following the tradition of beekeeping
Sustainability is now the key principle for many innovators who are looking for ways to use food differently. This also goes hand in hand with the zero waste principle. Bee Loop has offered a solution that seeks to recreate a cycle of nature. A honey pot designed by Aurimas Kadzevičius. The designer has listened to his father's stories about beekeeping all his life. This inspired him to look for connections in the organic cycle between people and bees.
The zero-waste principle of innovation
The Bee Loop honey pot is conceptual because it embodies the idea of an organic cycle: the bees build honeycombs out of wax, and the honey is stored in them. The beekeeper later harvests the honey, stores it in a natural honey pot, which can later be reused as wax for future combs.
The Bee Loop honey pot has won several design awards, including the Adobe Sustainable Design of the Year Award, for combining the philosophy of nature, beekeeping traditions and intelligent design. The honey pot is made of 100% natural wax and does not require any additional ingredients. The pot is label-free as a hot stamp is used for branding. Organic linen is the only additional material used for this pot. It is used as a string to open the honey pot.
Bee Loop now markets the honey pot not only in Lithuania, but also internationally. Germany is also one of the target countries, as there is a great awareness there for sustainable solutions in the food and packaging sector.
