Mountain gorillas are among the rarest creatures on our planet. According to current knowledge, there are only about 1,000 mountain gorillas left in the world. The last mountain gorillas live in the area of the Virunga Volcanoes in the border region between the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda. Saving them is the goal of the campaign "GORILLAS our friends FOREVER", which was initiated as a project by Mondberge-Verlag. Cooperation partners are the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, the Ugandan NGO "Conservation Through Public Health" and the association "Berggorilla & Regenwald Direkthilfe". The well-known author and actor Hannes Jaenicke is an ambassador for the campaign.

In order to save the mountain gorillas, a cultural-historical pewter figure of Ruhodeza and his mountain gorilla family was created, which is placed in an elaborately designed "Eco-Box". Dozens of miniature painters from all over the world have coloured the engraved pewter figurine groups. Koehler provided its high-quality recycled papers for the production of the box.
The "Eco-Box" is a prime example of how traditional craftsmanship and sustainability can be combined. Creative board diamant 120 g/m2 and 270 g/m2, Koehler Eco® Dark Grey 120 g/m2 as well as creative board platin 350 g/m2 were used for the production. The booklet was printed on creative print diamant 90 g/m2 and 210 g/m2. Creative print diamond 350 g/m2 was used to print the postcard. The recycled papers made from 100 % secondary fibres are not only convincing with the "Blue Angel" eco-label and the EU eco-label, but especially with their rich colours. "We are very proud to have contributed with our papers to the success of the campaign "GORIL- LAS our friends FOREVER" to save the mountain gorillas", says Udo Hollbach, Managing Director at the Koehler Paper site in Greiz.

Ruhondeza was the first mountain gorilla in Uganda to allow tourists to visit his group. In the course of his 50 years, it is estimated that the silverback had visual contact with more than 50,000 people. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the death of the legendary silverback from the Bwindi National Park in Uganda, the campaign was launched to draw attention to the issue of "saving the mountain gorillas" and to support concrete projects in the region of the Bwindi rainforest. Saving the last mountain gorillas is also about preserving their habitat and involving and supporting the local population.
