...wall decoration is influenced by exactly the same global megatrends as any other print production segment. These include the need for on-demand production, individualisation, short run, just-in-time production, cost reduction and an increased environmental awareness.

The shift from single-use plastics continues as ThermoFibre joins the PulPac eco-system as the next licensee to expand its offer with Dry Molded Fiber products. In connection with becoming a licensee, ThermoFibre ordered the PulPac Modula, a Dry Molded Fiber production line that will be installed in the company’s facility in Lincolnshire, UK, next year. Primary first applications will be high-volume products such as food trays, lids, cutlery and the like.

As the label volumes continue to grow year on year, its growth prospects continue to become increasingly influenced by increasing consumer pressure in regard to environmental concerns, legislation, and industry guidelines for all level of global value chains.

Despite plastic waste posing one of the biggest environmental challenges of our time, the recent statistics released by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (EMF) show little or no progress against the targets set out in the Global Plastics Commitment. Major brands all agreed that, by 2025, 100% of the packaging they used would be recyclable, compostable, or reusable; 26% of the packaging would be made from post-consumer recycled content; and the amount of virgin plastic used would fall by 20% (from 11.9Mt to 9.5Mt).
