Dow (NYSE: DOW) and Mengniu, China’s leading dairy company, today announced the successful commercialization of a collation shrink film made with Dow’s post-consumer recycled (PCR) resins in Mengniu’s product packaging. Amongst the first for the food and beverage industry in Asia Pacific, the newly formulated one-pellet resin is 100% recyclable and will be used in Mengniu’s secondary packaging for dairy products. This collaboration aligns with Dow’s sustainability commitment to stop the waste by enabling 1 million tons of plastic to be collected, reused, or recycled through its direct actions and partnerships by 2030.

EconCore, a global leader in honeycomb technologies, has developed new honeycomb cores for laminated sandwich panels made with SABIC’s NORYL GTX™ resin, a polyphenylene ether (PPE) blend, and EconCore’s proprietary technology.

With the new paper machine under construction at the main plant in Aalen-Neukochen, the future requirement for high-quality pulp will be produced in a highly efficient way. Compared to conventional technology, energy consumption will be reduced by 27% with our new technology. The €770,000 pilot project has been funded by the Environmental Innovation Programme.

With a joint eight million euro investment in the construction of the Palurec recycling plant, Tetra Pak, together with Elopak and SIG Combiblock, is setting new standards in the recycling of beverage cartons. With the recycling of plastic and aluminium components now possible, the recyclability increases to well over 90 per cent.

In cooperation with the Reclay Group, TÜV SÜD is offering a new service for testing and certifying the recyclability of packaging. The testing and certification procedure is used for packaging made of plastic, paper, cardboard, glass, aluminium, ferrous metals, wood and composites. The TÜV SÜD standard "Recyclability of packaging" takes into account all relevant norms and standards.
